Summary

A Vitra office chair with a slim padded back that sits between mesh and full upholstery.

Best for

  • People who want the feel of an upholstered back in a slim profile.
  • Those who like a forward tilt; it is an option on the FlowMotion mechanism.
  • Buyers who want to configure arms, lumbar and seat depth.

Good to check first

  • For a headrest, choose the ID Trim L; the ID Trim has none.
  • Seat depth adjustment and the height-adjustable lumbar are options, so add them when you configure.

The trade-off

A refined padded back and many options, with key adjustments sold as extras.

What Vitra highlights

  • Padded back with three zones

Multi-chamber padding is stretched over a polyamide frame. Vitra says the back gives different support at the lower back, mid back and shoulders.

  • Integrated lumbar cushion

A lumbar cushion is built into the back, with optional height adjustment. Vitra says the back stays almost as slim as a mesh one.

  • FlowMotion or AutoMotion

FlowMotion lets you set backrest resistance and add an optional forward tilt. AutoMotion adjusts to your weight automatically, with hard or soft settings.

  • 2D or 3D armrests

2D arms adjust in height and width; 3D arms add depth and a 360° swivel. Ring arms and an armless version are also offered.

  • V-Foam seat

The seat cushion uses V-Foam, which Vitra developed with BASF. Vitra says it can be melted down and fully recycled.

As described by Vitra on its official pages; not a Chairpedia assessment.
