Will the Chair Fit Your Desk? A Three-Measurement Checklist
Measure seat height, desk-apron clearance and arm spacing before ordering an office chair. Use a simple worksheet instead of mismatched model-wide numbers.

Measure your current workspace before comparing chair specifications. The useful numbers are the ones taken at your working position and for the exact configuration on offer.
Make a simple fit record

| Working seat height | Measure floor to the seat where you normally sit. Note shoes, floor surface and whether you need a footrest. |
| Desk underside | Measure to the lowest obstruction: apron, drawer or cable tray. Desktop height alone misses these. |
| Arm spacing and height | Check whether the arms fit both your typing position and the opening beneath the desk. |
| Seat depth | Check usable support with your back against the backrest. Overall chair depth is a different dimension. |
Ask for the missing specification
Copy this request to the seller: “For this exact chair and cylinder, what are the minimum and maximum seat height, usable seat depth, arm-pad height above the seat and outside arm width? Please identify which values come from the manufacturer's drawing and which you measured.”
Compare like with like. A stool, tall cylinder, different caster or different regional specification can change the answer. An unloaded specification and a measurement while seated are not necessarily identical. Keep both labeled in your notes.
Use the result to narrow your shortlist
- If arms collide with an apron, check an actual lower or narrower arm setting before ordering.
- If raising the chair to the keyboard leaves your feet unsupported, evaluate the desk setup and foot support together.
- If the seat edge presses into your legs, investigate usable seat depth and position instead of choosing only by overall chair height.
- If a necessary range is undocumented, request clarification or choose an offer with a practical fit-test and return arrangement.
Model-specific next steps
Aeron requires a size choice. Leap and Gesture use different adjustment layouts. Contessa II requires an exact configuration check. Use these guides to ask the right questions; they do not replace trying the actual setup.
