Vitra ID Chair Concept

Designed by Antonio Citterio · ID Chair Concept 2010 · Vitra

Offices that want to configure lumbar, seat and arm options on one chair.

  • 5-year warranty

Summary

Antonio Citterio's family of Vitra office chairs that share one base and mechanism but differ in the back.

Best for

  • Choosing a back type: mesh, soft upholstery, a padded trim back or a 3D-knit back.
  • Offices that want matching task and visitor chairs.
  • People who want a weight-adjusting recline; AutoMotion is offered on every model.

Good to check first

  • Pick the model first (ID Air, ID Mesh, ID Soft, ID Trim or ID Cloud); price and back feel differ.
  • Seat depth adjustment and forward tilt are options on the FlowMotion mechanism.
  • Register private purchases at my.vitra.com for Vitra's 10-year product warranty.

The trade-off

Many combinations to fit different needs, so comparing prices takes more work.

What Vitra highlights

  • One platform, several backs

ID Cloud, ID Air, ID Mesh, ID Soft and ID Trim share the base and seat but use different backs. Parts can be swapped between models.

  • FlowMotion mechanism

You set the backrest resistance yourself and can lock the back upright. Forward tilt or seat depth adjustment can be added.

  • AutoMotion mechanism

An optional mechanism adjusts to body weight on its own, with two tension levels. Vitra now offers it on every model.

  • 2D or 3D arms

2D arms adjust in height and width; 3D arms add depth and a 360° swivel.

  • V-Foam seat

The seat foam was developed with BASF. Vitra says it can be recycled, and some configurations are fully recyclable.

As described by Vitra on its official pages; not a Chairpedia assessment.
